The iris, traditional symbol of faith, hope and wisdom is beautifully depicted in this elegant goldwork portrait.

On a calico background, the flower and leaf shapes are first coloured using silk appliqué.

Gold threads are then used to both define design lines and create textured fillings. Colour is added to the flower petals with couching stitches in varying shades of purple.
